Frequently asked questions

How does FooDecoded work?

Take a photo of any ingredient label with your iPhone camera, pick a photo from your library, or paste text manually. FooDecoded uses AI to analyze each ingredient against your personal health profile and highlights anything worth knowing about.

Is my health information private?

Yes. Your health profile never leaves your device. Only the ingredient text and general health tags are sent for analysis — never your name, email, or any personal identifier. See our privacy policy for full details.

Do I need an account?

No. FooDecoded works without any login or account. Just install and use.

The OCR didn't read my label correctly. What do I do?

Try taking a clearer photo with better lighting and the label flat. You can also tap the text box and edit the extracted text before tapping "Decode ingredients." Small labels or curved packaging can be tricky — a straight-on, well-lit shot works best.

How accurate is the analysis?

FooDecoded uses advanced AI models to analyze ingredients, but results are informational only. They should not replace professional medical advice. For severe allergies or medical conditions, always read labels directly and consult a healthcare provider.

Why are some ingredients flagged when others aren't?

Ingredients are flagged based on your health profile. For example, a prediabetic profile flags added sugars and refined carbs, while a celiac profile flags gluten-containing ingredients. Update your profile anytime from the top-right icon in the app.

How do I update or delete my health profile?

Tap the profile icon in the top-right of the main screen. Toggle conditions on or off, add or remove allergies, and changes save automatically.

How do I delete my scan history?

Open the history view from the clock icon in the top-right. Swipe left on any item to delete it individually, or tap "Clear all" to wipe everything at once.

Can I name my scans?

Yes. After each analysis you'll be prompted to give the product a name like "Lays Classic Chips." You can also rename scans later by swiping right on any item in history.

Does FooDecoded work offline?

The camera and OCR work offline using Apple's Vision framework. However, the AI analysis requires an internet connection since it uses a cloud-based model.

Is FooDecoded a replacement for medical advice?

No. FooDecoded is an informational tool only. It is not intended as a substitute for professional medical, nutritional, or dietary advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider regarding your health and diet.
